Finding Your “MOJO” , the „USP“

savoirfaire_RGBJoW. – Savoir Faire Basel, Basel’s first City Concierge http://www.savoirfaire-basel.com earned the third place in Basel’s 2012 young entrepreneurs award because of a straight and clear concept and an unbeatable „USP“ (Unique Selling Proposition). The way to success is always the same: How you find Your USP — And Why You Need One.

In one of our last blogs we have been dealing with following topic: Seraching and finding Your USP https://savoirfairebasel.wordpress.com/2013/04/29/gesucht-und-gefunden-die-usp/ .

In a blog written by Matthew Toren, an Award Winning Author, Serial Entrepreneur and an investor @ www.YoungEntrepreneur.com you will find following remarks:

The harsh truth is that there are very few unique businesses — those that are unlike any other in the market. In fact, it’s increasingly difficult to think of even one business that began as a unique enterprise and has stayed that way over time. The point is that your business is joined by many, many more businesses competing for customers in the same industry. Your challenge then, is to rise up from the pack and try to uncover how your business is unique from the others in your industry.“

Creating a feeling of uniqueness is what makes a USP unique

In fact, it’s all about needs. A business is there to satisfy at least one of the basic human needs, says Matthew Toren. And: Finally it’s not just the simple task of satisfying these needs to consider, but it is the way you satisfy them. This will make a business unique and raise it above your competitors. And, according to the theory of some specialists, that’s all about the Unique Selling Proposition.

roche-sfbasel-engThe Unique Selling Point (or Proposition) can be an actual fact which separates you from the competition. Take for example Savoir Faire Basel, http://www.savoirfaire-basel.com : With a „leitmotiv“ and slogan like „Your time is precious“ the awarded young company has established a USP by founding the first City Concierge support in Basel… and by offering additional support in Event Management. Even more, Savoir Faire Basel has a clear and strong community with the „Expats“, especially in the Basel area, where tousands of families are living. What does make the USP so unbeatable? A concierge and „manager of needs“ will follow or prepare all your steps regarding the visits to the authorities, locate those “hard to find” tickets, arrange restaurant and hotel reservations, walk your pet while you are at work, go grocery shopping or watch your house during your holidays. In short, a concierge is your event planner, errand runner, personal shopper and delivery person. This is the USP the company has found.

Where is Your unbeatable slogan and leitmotiv“?

But remember, being different isn’t just about “being different”. It’s about adding value in a way which makes you different from your competitors.

Note this (source: http://www.paperandinkpr.co.uk/finding-your-unique-selling-point-usp):

  • Firstly, think about what it is that your Company does – what services are in demand and what are your specialist areas? What are your skills?
  • How do you do business? Is there something special, unusual, or significant about the way you do business?
  • Who are your customers? Look at the demographics – age, location, careers, hobbies.
  • What do your customers want? Do they want a low cost service, do they like your personality, your location, your reputation or something else about your business?
  • Know your weaknesses. You need to know what your weaknesses are so that you can improve them and you can focus your message on something else.
  • Take a look at customer feedback, product reviews and testimonials – customers often know exactly what it is that you do best. You’ll get a clearer idea of which benefits your customers actually care about.
  • Study your competition. This will help you to notice your strengths and weaknesses.
  • Get the message out there. Tell people what your USP is through press releases and marketing materials.

It may be a more challenging way to uncover your USP but you’ll find it a much more fulfilling process and you’ll learn the essence of what makes your business marketable. When you uncover the way you want people to feel when dealing with you and your business, you can build powerful strategies and put into action new processes that will create this feeling in all your customers in the future.

Endorsements about the USP Savoir Faire Basel

“Whether you’re an expat or just juggling too many things – Savoir Faire is reliable, responsive and discrete; and Sandra a wonderfully calm and capable service-provider – I am very happy with the company and its offering.”

F.C., Baxter Healthcare SA

“I was introduced to Savoirfaire, Basel and to Sandra by a friend of mine when I was urgently in need of household cleaning help. As a full-time working mom, I have many responsibilities as well as interests to juggle. I depend on regular and high quality cleaning help to keep the home running smoothly. Sandra is able to sustain an impressive turnaround time in both, finding the right solution as well as in making any needed adjustments to the service to ensure that all runs smoothly. She listens well and works efficiently to ensure that the desired service is in place so that you, as a client, can have one less thing to worry about! I am very content with my weekly household cleaning service from Savoirfaire and have recommended it to others, including friends with a new baby who needed an extra hand.”

S.H., Novartis, Basel
